1.表示某事物的成立，需用被動語態(tài);“原名京師大學堂”即最初的名字，可譯為and its original name was...;也可與前面句子共用主語Peking University，譯為was originallyknown as...，但這兩種處理方法都不如將其處理為過去分詞短語originally known as...來得簡潔地道。

2.注意第二句中“中國近代史”的譯法，“近代史”通常譯為modern history?！艾F(xiàn)代史”則譯為contemporaryhistory?！皹酥局拈_始”可以套用mark the beginning of...句型表達。注意，不要一看到“標志”就翻譯為symbolize，該詞一般指“某事物的象征意義”，用于此不合適。
